Swine Flu FactsSince the H1N1 swine flu outbreak was first detected in mid-April 2009 through the end of July, a total of 43,771 cases of swine flu were reported in the US. 5,011 people were hospitalized and 302 people died. While many of the hospitalized cases and deaths have an underlying chronic illness, many are young previously healthy people.
